Global Wave 2015 Features The ATOM Project Honorary Ambassador Karipbek Kuyukov

global wave 2015Global Wave 2015 will involve simple public actions in cities around the world in a timed fashion over 24 hours just before the 2015 Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference in New York. Starting at a major peace rally in New York on April 26, and then proceeding westward through each time zone every hour, humanity will ‘Wave Goodbye to Nuclear Weapons’ through symbolic Wave events.

Global Wave also recently featured a story about The ATOM Project Honorary Ambassador Karipbek Kuyukov and the work of this armless artist whose parents were exposed to nuclear testing and who has dedicated his life and work to fighting against nuclear weapons.

Karipbek Kuyukov, a renowned Kazakh artist and nuclear abolition campaigner, joins Global Wave 2015. Current Events on Nuclear Weapons

Kuyukov ‘waves goodbye to nuclear weapons’ despite having no arms as a result of his parent’s exposure to radiation from nuclear testing. He encourages people all over the world, regardless of language, nationality, religion, politics or physical ability to join us in the Global Wave.

Kuyukov was  born in the village of Yegyndybulak, which is located 100 kilometres away from the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. Over 450 nuclear bombs were ‘tested’ (i.e. exploded) by the Soviet Union at this site.
